The National Accreditation Body for Higher Education Team Assessing the Doctoral Program of Language Education Science UNY

In the midst of the hustle and bustle of the teaching and learning process, especially to coincide with the month of Ramadan, the Doctoral Program of Language Education Science UNY received a visitation from the Assessment Team of the National Accreditation Board for Higher Education (BAN-PT). This field assessment was carried out on Monday, 30 June 2014 by Prof. Adnan Latief M., MA, Ph.D. from State University of Malang (UM) and Dr. Endry Boeriswati, M.Pd. from the Jakarta State University (UNJ).

At the same time, the Graduate School UNY also held a monthly routine activity, namely the Judicium for the June 2014 period. Thus, it is only right that the manager should be smart in managing human resources to succeed the two activities simultaneously.

The team of assessors was greeted in the Director's room by the Deputy Rector IV, Prof. Suwarsih Madya, Ph.D., Director of Graduate School, Prof. Dr. Zuhdan Kun Prasetyo, M.Ed., Assistant Director II, Prof. Dr. Muhyadi, and the Head of Language Education Science, Prof. Sugirin, Ph.D. The Director of Graduate School UNY welcomed the assessors team who were pleased to be present at this institution to verify the implementation of the new study program, namely Language Education Science. He hopes that the results of the verification can increase the credibility of the doctoral program in the eyes of the wider community. 

Furthermore, the institutional form (IIIB)  was assessed by Dr. Endry Boeriswati, M.Pd. responded by Assistant Director I, Prof. Pardjono, Ph.D. and Assistant Director II, Prof. Dr. Muhyadi. In this form assessment, questions are asked about the academic atmosphere, lectures, curriculum, courses. In addition, the responsibilities of Assistant Director II including infrastructure, teaching lecturers, and financing were also assessed.

In another place, room 315th, the doctoral program form (IIIA) was assessed by Prof. Adnan Latief M., MA, Ph.D. to which the Head of Study Program and Secretary of Language Education Science responded directly, Prof. Sugirin, Ph.D. and Prof. Dr. Pratomo Widodo. In addition, there were also doctoral program lecturers who participated in helping to compile forms from beginning to end.

As during visitation and verification in general, the managers are asked to show physical evidence of various activities such as Teaching Decree, SK Testing, Management Decree, admissions of new students documents, journals, works of lecturers and students and other physical evidences.

From the results of the visitation, the assessors team delivered 5 recommendations, namely 1) Improving the infrastructure considering that the interest in entering Language Education Science is quite high, 2) Updating the collection of books on language in the library, 3) Arranging management efforts to increase students' achievement and accelerate studies, 4) Increasing the creativity of study program lecturers in the research field, and 5) Increasing the effectiveness of the implementation of quality assurance. (Rb)
